Are you ready to have a voice in this year’s all-important elections? This Sunday, we will gather to review the research. Together, we will decide who to endorse in the August primary. It’s never been more vital to carefully evaluate candidates and put our voice and vote behind those who will defend our democracy and protect civil rights! Our research team has done the hard work. Read what they learned about Whidbey candidates and those running for the State Supreme Court. On Sunday, you’ll get a summary from our researchers and have a chance to talk with other Indivisible members about the issues as we decide who to endorse. Added bonus: ice cream for everyone after the endorsements are finished. We expect to publicize our endorsements widely through the rest of the summer and into the fall, so your participation in our decision will truly make a difference as we work to elect candidates who stand behind democracy and human rights. This might be the most important Indivisible meeting of the year, so please join us! Library Levy In a time of increasing censorship, our libraries serve as a vital community resource. Here on Whidbey Island, they are also great places for meetings, learning, and community building. For that reason, Indivisible Whidbey is supporting the Sno-Isle Library Levy. It's worth remembering we're already paying to support the libraries. Still, the amount they collect each year has not kept pace with rising costs and increased library use. The levy will cost 47 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value and increase property taxes for an average Island County home by about two cups of coffee per month. In return, our libraries would be able to continue providing a myriad of services, exceptionally helpful staff, wi-fi, printing, programs for people of all ages and stages, and much, much more Protect Voting By Mail Our right to free and fair elections, including voting by mail, is under threat. Don’t Let Trump Sabotage Vote by Mail! Under a proposed rule, the US Postal Service would be required to keep a list of voters DC bureaucrats and political appointees believe should be allowed to vote by mail — and would have the authority to prevent ballots from being delivered to those the regime decides are unworthy. Much like the SAVE Act, which our voices have helped prevent from becoming law, this is voter suppression and disenfranchisement masquerading as a solution to a nearly nonexistent problem. Urge them to say NO to this rule and help protect voting by mail. Volunteers Needed! Looking for a way to get involved and make a difference? Indivisible Whidbey needs you! 4th of July Raise a flag for democracy with Indivisible! Oak Harbor Parade 10:30 arrival for 11 am parade Windjammer Park Sign up to join us in Oak Harbor Maxwelton Parade 11 am arrival for 11:30 practice and noon parade Sign up for the Maxwellton 4th of July Parade here Hold our Indivisible Whidbey banner, wave flags, throw candy, and walk with pals! (Please, no individual protest signs at the Maxwelton event) Bring your instruments, your voices, or just yourself! We’ll play “This Little Light of Mine” in Key of D and “America the Beautiful" in Key of G! Be at the parade assembly area by 11:30 to practice singing along or to gather goodies. More info about parking options, shuttle, and road closures. Good Trouble Lives On Across the country, there are calls for action on the weekend of July 17-19! On this weekend, people will honor the legacy of civil rights leader Congressman John Lewis. This year’s theme is “Teach! Reach! Preach!” encouraging non-partisan voter engagement, civic education, and faith-based organizing. If you are planning to organize an event that weekend, please let us know.
