Meaningful Holidays, Meaningful Actions

12/11/2025

Dear Friend,
As 2025 winds down, we wish you a Happy Chanukah (12/14-12/22), a warm and renewing Solstice (12/21), a Merry Christmas (12/25), a bright and meaningful Kwanzaa (12/26-01/1), and a hopeful and active New Year!
While we work to actively oppose ICE actions, here are some alternatives to holiday gift giving that can make a difference in the lives of our immigrant neighbors:
The Neighbor to Neighbor Fund is Langley Methodist Church’s grassroots community fund dedicated to supporting our immigrant neighbors by providing low-barrier financial assistance for essential needs — rent payments, transportation, immigration legal fees, and more.
The Jewish Coalition for Immigrant Justice provides legal and accompaniment services, among others. A great alternative to Chanukah gifts!
The Northwest Immigrant Rights Project uses the legal system to fight illegal actions by Homeland Security, Immigration, and ICE, and to provide other valuable assistance.
The Washington Immigrant Solidarity Network provides deportation defense, trains communities to resist ICE, and more.

National Action: Secretary of War Crimes

Since early September, Pete Hegseth’s “Department of War” has killed at least 87 people in strikes on boats in the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean. The regime has claimed that these boats were carrying drugs destined for the US — a claim refuted by evidence in several cases, and one that wouldn’t justify the strikes, even if true. Last week, we learned that the strikes began with an order by Pete Hegseth to leave no survivors. Consequently, the US military struck the shipwrecked survivors in blatant violation of the Law of Armed Conflict.
If this regime can kill anyone it chooses, with no legal justification of any kind, none of us are safe. As Hegseth himself once said in a recently unearthed recording, “If you’re doing something that is just completely unlawful and ruthless, then there is a consequence for that.”  Amidst the lies and lawless actions by this regime, Congress must launch immediate investigations into these operations and bring an end to these ruthless strikes. These investigations must be public; Hegseth must testify under oath. Click here to email your Members of Congress to demand investigations into Hegseth’s extrajudicial killings.  During business hours, please use our scripts and call tools to call your senators and representative.
We cannot let the Trump regime get away with bluster and excuses as it plans yet more strikes; we have to do everything we can to stop them.

TAN Made Easy
As we head into the 2026 Washington Legislative Session,
we are working hard to get more Indivisible Whidbey members into the Take Action Network (TAN). This digital platform makes it easy for you to have a voice in state and national policy issues. While TAN is easy to learn, many valuable TAN training sessions will be offered in the next few weeks.

Civic Calendar
Stay aware and involved in what is happening on Whidbey Island. Check out the civic calendar at the end of this email for this month's important meetings.

Building Community, Taking Action
Our community socials are a great way to interact with like-minded neighbors. At our next few socials, we will also help people get up and running on TAN and share plans for 2026, with an eye toward how you can get involved and have an impact.

Coupeville Community Social (4th Tuesday of every month, 6-7:30 pm). Next meeting: December 23rd.
Oak Harbor Community Social (1st Monday of every month, 6:30-7:30 pm). Next Meeting: January 5th.
Our first South Whidbey Community Social drew a great crowd. We will gather again on January 22nd, 6-7:30 pm. We plan to hold these on the third Thursday of each month. Mark your calendar and look for details on the location shortly!
Our next  All-island Membership Meeting is on Saturday, January 24th, 2026, at the Clinton Community Hall at 1:30 pm. These meetings are an important opportunity for us to come together as an island. At the January meeting, we will share our work on the 2026 Washington Legislative Session and plans for the midterms on Whidbey Island, in the State, and in the Nation. We have ways for everyone to be involved and have an impact, so please come!

In Solidarity,

Indivisible Whidbey Steering Committee
